Bootstrap is a front-end framework for HTML, CSS and Javascript that is used to make interactive and responsive websites. It uses Less and Sass, which are CSS preprocessors. If you want to learn more on how it works, codeacademy has a tutorial on Sass. I've mentioned below a link for the Bootstrap tutorial on w3schools. @Orioles, a preprocessor is a scripting language used to make, in this case CSS, more dynamic, organized and productive. A CSS preprocessor extends CSS and compiles into regular CSS. Advantages: -Cleaner code with reusable pieces and variables -Saves you time -Easier to maintain code with snippets and libraries -Calculations and logic -More organized and easy to setup You got many preprocessors like sass (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets), less, stylus, switchCss etc. I would recommend sass or less as CSS preprocessors, but it mainly has to do with what fits the work you want to do with the style on your site. You can find more info from the link below. Sources: https://www.keycdn.com/blog/sass-vs-less/ P.S. : Big baseball fan, I would say a bit more with White Sox, but I liked the name.

@Orioles, one does not need to learn sass or any other preprocessor language to use css, but if you want to look further into the ins and outs of CSS or you are looking into making your CSS more dynamic, then sass or less qould be the way to go. Goes without saying that sass and less prerequisite is a basic, at least, comprehension of CSS.

@Orioles, Bootstrap uses less and sass, but you do not need to know less and sass to use Bootstrap. Check out the tutorial at codeacademy; it's very good and explains very well how it works.
