Why does it seem like the web is just soooooo popular with programmers. Everyone seems to be into web dev

It is because web applications can open in all platforms with the help of browsers.

Some desktop applications can't work on mobile and vice versa .

So with the help of browsers that are installed on desktops and mobiles, web application will work on any platform.
